A solo exhibition showcased various works of qubibi, utilizing the entire space of a traditional Japanese house (old Japanese folk house). During the exhibition, a 50-meter-long fabric printed mimizu (worm), which was exhibited by suspending from the ceiling, was cut and sold to visitors by Teshigawara, and sold out.
This solo exhibition showcases a variety of works by qubibi, spanning from the past to the present, utilizing the entire space of an old Japanese folk house. Kazumasa Teshigawara started his career as a web designer and began working under the name "qubibi" in 2006. Since 2009, he has started his activities as an artist, continually presenting distinctive works through exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, as well as online. Teshigawara's works are divided into two main directions. One direction consists of interactive pieces based on concrete motifs, many of which involve simple interactions like opening or rolling, allowing viewers to explore possibilities as a child would repeatedly play with a toy. On the other hand, since introducing "hello world" in 2010, he has dedicated himself to generative art, which has become like his life's work. This art form, characterized by one-off expressions through programming and an underlying set of rules, along with a raw texture, offers viewers a contemplative experience. These diverse groups of works share a common trait: they possess a gravitational pull that isolates the experiencers and viewers from the external world, capturing their field of view and time. In this exhibition, Teshigawara presents "mimizu" as the culmination of his current stage in generative art, offering it for display and sale as fabric. His works, primarily presented as non-tangible on-screen media, will now physically pass into people's hands as fabric. Additionally, the entire venue will be utilized to display works through various methods. *Text quoted from the exhibition brochure “The Worm Fabric ミミズの反物 by qubibi” (2023)
